Description

This rope workshop will be a hand-on class with active participation and rope tying.

We will start by establishing aesthetic guidelines and principles for our ties as an overarching theme of the intermediate series. We will focus on a) modular tying, b) intentionality, c) nawajiri management, and d) philosophy of minimalism, model-centric photography, and wabi-sabi aesthetics.
For the partial suspension class, we will focus on tying the futomomo in various contexts:
Siting on the ground
Standing
Partial suspension
Full suspension

We will also look at basic uplines with tying a y hanger, creating a pulley system, and locking off to bamboo.

Prerequisites: Single column, experience with basic chest harness, basic understandings of tension and rope placement. Basic understanding of uplines (pre-class videos made available at registration).

Requirements: at least 6 hanks of rope at 20-30+ft in length.
