SUMMARY:Beginner Shibari
DESCRIPTION:Shibari is the Japanese-inspired practice of aesthetic rope bondage. In this foundational session\, students will learn fundamental ties and techniques to begin their rope journey. Though fundamental\, these techniques can be combined in uncountable ways to produce elaborate shapes and scenarios. Besides learning technical skills\, we will focus on rope bondage as a movement and acrobatic art\, with emphasis on flow\, aesthetics\, and partner connection. This class is appropriate for students that wish to learn shibari as a performing art\, or as a private practice. Attendees can attend solo or as a couple. \nHosted out of a circus school\, this class is ideal for folks that want to explore shibari in a non-kink environment.

SUMMARY:Crab Tie
DESCRIPTION:This rope workshop will be a hand-on class with active participation and rope tying. We will start by establishing aesthetic guidelines and principles for our ties as an overarching theme of the intermediate series. We will focus on a) modular tying\, b) intentionality\, c) nawajiri management\, and d) philosophy of minimalism\, model-centric photography\, and wabi-sabi aesthetics. The Crab Tie class will include explicit instruction on: \n\n\nManaging reverse tensions \n\n\nManaging kannukis / cinches \n\n\nThe main principle we will focus on is managing nawajiri effectively with intentionality. We will be tying similar shapes with various lengths of rope. \nPrerequisites: Single column\, experience with basic chest harness\, basic understandings of tension and rope placement. \nRequirements:  at least 4 hanks of rope at different lengths. ~30\, ~20\, ~15\, ~12.

SUMMARY:Techniques In Tying: Intermediate Series Workshop
DESCRIPTION:This 3-part series is designed for those who feel confident with single/double columns and are ready for more complexity. Classes will focus on functional rather than decorative patterns\, emphasizing the techniques needed for creating stable ties and understanding how components interact. Those tying will learn how to incorporate play and body manipulation to dive deeper into creating connected\, intentional scenes. Those being tied will learn assessment skills necessary to evaluate stamina and strength in a variety of positions and shapes. Upon completing this series\, students will be prepared for nuanced conversations on individual risk profiles and strategic thinking on pattern construction. \nIn order to benefit from this class\, those tying should be able to confidently use a non-collapsing single column and double column tie\, use simple frictions like munters and half-hitches\, and understand how and when to use forward versus reverse tension. Those being tied should be comfortable stating their rope style preferences and communicating their physical and emotional experiences while in rope. \nThese classes are crafted for partnered learning; attendees need to sign up in pairs. Tying pairs must commit to all classes in the series. Prerequisites\, gear requirements\, and expectations are outlined on the ticketing page. Class dates are 3/15\, 4/19\, and 5/17 from 11am to 2pm.
