SUMMARY:Performance Basics for Rope Bondage
DESCRIPTION:Are you interested in exploring performance as a part of your shibari/bondage rope practice? Local Seattle instructors and performers Esjay and Dan will guide you through some performance basics in the context of performing a rope bondage act. This workshop is appropriate for those doing ground rope or suspension\, and we welcome solos as well as duos or trios. While we will be learning how to perform with rope\, the primary focus will be on performance archetypes\, developing your own movement style\, and emotional expression through movement rather than specific ties or harnesses. Rope will be available if folks need. \nAvailable spots: 12 \nPrerequisites: Minimum experience level is competency with single column tie.

SUMMARY:Bondage for Beginners at Gallery Erato

This is not a place to cruise or look for partners. \nSelf-tiers are warmly welcome — most demos will include self-tie options. \n*Rope is for every body.* \n## What\nWe’ll start with a short welcome circle and consent & safety reminders\, then move into some beginner-friendly demos and exercises\, while those with more experience are free to do their own thing\, or to help the newbies keep up. You get to choose your level of interaction. \nThis is a social and educational space\, not a play party:\n🚫 No nudity\n🚫 No sexual activity\n🚫 No explicit scenes \nFloorwork only (no suspension points). \n## What to Bring\n🪢 Rope & safety shears (I have a few extras for newbies to borrow\, if needed)\n🥤 Water bottle\n🥨 Snacks for yourself or to share — just no eating (or shoes) on the mats\n🧸 Any other aftercare needs (blanket\, stuffy\, pillow…whatever helps you feel comfortable and grounded) \n## Where\nThe venue is conveniently located across the street from the Olympia Transit Center (bus station). (link: https://www.sparrowstudiosolympia.com/renting-the-studio text: Accessibility info is available here). The exact address will be in your order confirmation email. \n## Contact\nQuestions? Email info@OlyRope.com or text 360-409-ROPE (7673) \nCome help shape this new rope community into something *you* want to belong to. \n## About Your Host\nI’m @ComplexiT on FetLife (T/they/she)\, a queer\, femme-presenting nonbinary rope nerd\, bottom-leaning switch\, and self-suspender. \nI discovered rope in October 2024 and immediately had my mind blown 🤯😍🪢 — I wanted to learn everything I could. Since then\, I’ve taken private and group lessons\, attended workshops and events in Seattle and the Bay Area with my long-distance partner @XTCatalyst (who co-facilitates the group with me when he’s in town)\, and supplemented with online study and independent practice. \nI’m building the @OlyRope community to create a space that’s safer\, kinder\, and more accessible for LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent rope lovers in the South Sound. \nI facilitate in a collaborative\, peer-led style\, and I demo many techniques as self-ties so folks without partners have concrete\, empowering ways to engage with rope. My goal isn’t to be “the authority” on anything — it’s to help cultivate a space where it feels natural and comfortable for all of us to learn from each other. \n## I’ve adopted the (link: https://meerkatagenda.com/kems text: KEMS code of conduct) and have nothing to disclose.

SUMMARY:Predicament Rope Bondage
DESCRIPTION:This workshop will start with a 30 minute lecture on the historical context of Japanese eroticism and rope as a tool for nonconsensual torture in Japan’s Tokugawa period. Then we will analyze the 20th century development of semenawa or torturous rope as a common BDSM practice. \nWe will briefly analyze the methodology of predicament bondage looking through the theoretical framework of sustainable\, stress\, suffer\, and sweat. We will then look at various predicament positions and discuss creative approaches to “turn up the heat”. The technical ties we will cover will be the  ebi shibari / shrimp tie position. \nDisclaimer: Presentation includes images depicting violence\, sexual violence\, and nudity.

SUMMARY:Techniques In Tying: Intermediate Series Workshop
DESCRIPTION:This 3-part series is designed for those who feel confident with single/double columns and are ready for more complexity. Classes will focus on functional rather than decorative patterns\, emphasizing the techniques needed for creating stable ties and understanding how components interact. Those tying will learn how to incorporate play and body manipulation to dive deeper into creating connected\, intentional scenes. Those being tied will learn assessment skills necessary to evaluate stamina and strength in a variety of positions and shapes. Upon completing this series\, students will be prepared for nuanced conversations on individual risk profiles and strategic thinking on pattern construction. \nIn order to benefit from this class\, those tying should be able to confidently use a non-collapsing single column and double column tie\, use simple frictions like munters and half-hitches\, and understand how and when to use forward versus reverse tension. Those being tied should be comfortable stating their rope style preferences and communicating their physical and emotional experiences while in rope. \nThese classes are crafted for partnered learning; attendees need to sign up in pairs. Tying pairs must commit to all classes in the series. Prerequisites\, gear requirements\, and expectations are outlined on the ticketing page. Class dates are 3/15\, 4/19\, and 5/17 from 11am to 2pm.
