SUMMARY:Beginner Shibari
DESCRIPTION:Shibari is the Japanese-inspired practice of aesthetic rope bondage. In this foundational session\, students will learn fundamental ties and techniques to begin their rope journey. Though fundamental\, these techniques can be combined in uncountable ways to produce elaborate shapes and scenarios. Besides learning technical skills\, we will focus on rope bondage as a movement and acrobatic art\, with emphasis on flow\, aesthetics\, and partner connection. This class is appropriate for students that wish to learn shibari as a performing art\, or as a private practice. Attendees can attend solo or as a couple. \nHosted out of a circus school\, this class is ideal for folks that want to explore shibari in a non-kink environment.

SUMMARY:Ascent In Rope: Partials Series
DESCRIPTION:This 3-part series is designed for tying pairs who are experienced in floor rope and wish to escalate their skills by playing with gravity. Those tying will learn how to attach\, use\, and manage one or more uplines. Those being tied will learn to identify red flags in upline management\, practice bottoming skills\, and develop a better understanding of their body. Upon completing this series\, attendees will be prepared to play with simple partial suspension shapes. \nIn order to benefit from this class\, those tying should be able to confidently tie a non-collapsing single column and double column\, use simple frictions like munters and half-hitches\, and learn harnesses through demonstration. Those being tied should be comfortable voicing their rope style preferences and communicating their physical and emotional experiences while in rope. \nThese classes are crafted for partnered learning; attendees need to sign up in pairs. All tying pairs must commit to all classes in the series. \nWe encourage those who have completed the Techniques in Tying curriculum to register. Prerequisites are listed below for those who have not attended these series.

SUMMARY:RopeLab @_the_apartment
DESCRIPTION:Come hang with us at Rope Lab! This is a casual exploration into the basics of shibari and eastern rope bondage. Each session we will begin by covering the basic single column tie which is the foundation of all that we do\, and then we will explore other ties that build on that. \nDoors open at 6:30 and class will begin at 7:00 sharp. Please be sure to be on time. \nPlease come in comfortable clothes that allow for a wide range of movement. Two or three pieces of 6mm rope 24-30 ft in length will be used in each session. Mats are provided\, but a blanket is nice to place over them.\nThe ties we will focus on are best done with natural fiber rope. Jute or hemp are the preferred options.\nWe have loaner rope if you need to borrow and will usually have some on hand for sale should you want to take some home to practice.
