Bight and Bind Collective
We are an instructor collective in Seattle, WA that has been teaching foundational, partnered rope classes since 2024. Our progressive curriculum helps people learn to tie and be tied from the first single column to the first suspension. Our style is informed by Japanese heritages with emphasis on tight binding and minimalism. Our instructor team is passionate about teaching in an adaptive, risk-informed manner to accommodate bodies of all sizes, abilities, and skills.
ComplexiT of OlyRope
I’m @ComplexiT (T/they/she), a queer, femme-presenting nonbinary rope nerd, bottom-leaning switch, and self-suspender. I discovered rope in October 2024 and immediately had my mind blown 🤯😍🪢 — rope turned out to be so much more than what had initially drawn my curiosity. Partnered tying can be a sensual or passionate way to connect with friends or romantic partners, and self-tying is a whole other realm of self-exploration, self-mastery, and self-love. Each in their own way can be an amazing form of sensory play for adults (incorporating deep pressure, vestibular, and proprioceptive senses, in addition to the familiar five). I immediately wanted to learn everything I could. Since then, I’ve taken private and group lessons, attended workshops and events in the Bay Area with my long-distance partner @XTCatalyst (who co-facilitates OlyRope Skillshares with me when he's in town), and supplemented with online study and independent practice. I’m building the OlyRope community to create a space that’s safer, kinder, and more accessible for LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent rope lovers in the South Sound. I facilitate in a collaborative, peer-led style, and I demo many techniques as self-ties so folks without partners have concrete, empowering ways to engage with rope. My goal isn’t to be “the authority” on anything — it’s to help cultivate a space where it feels natural and comfortable for all of us to learn from each other. I’ve adopted the KEMS code of conduct (https://meerkatagenda.com/kems/) and have nothing to disclose.

Dan (he/him) is a queer, top-leaning rope switch based in Seattle. He has been active in the rope scene since 2017. His style of rope is best characterized as sensual, functional, and connective. He takes an analytical approach to rope, with an emphasis on nerve and body safety. Performing as a duo with Esjay the Dreamer, their joint mission is to promote shibari as a movement and performing art, and to welcome curious folks into the rope community. Drea
Drea (she/her, @subtly_mean) is a top-leaning switch that has been actively involved in the public scene in San Francisco since 2017 and in Seattle since 2022. She's been focused on learning and teaching rope ever since and currently co-hosts the Rope Bottom’s Union (RBU) Munch in Seattle with Stella. She teaches both independently and as a founding member of the Bight & Bind Collective. As an instructor, she loves teaching folks the foundational aspects of rope that move beyond patterns and guiding new bottoms through understanding their body in rope. Her rope is a mix of Japanese and Western styles of shibari and other movement activities and she places heavy emphasis on adapting to the needs of her partner when tying.
